I am reposting this video to provide some visual and historical background of the amazing culture and country in the hopes of understanding the present crisis.
We visited several ancient Armenian Apostolic churches, as well as the The seat of the Armenian Apostolic Church located in Vagharshapat (Etchmiadzin), Armenia. This is the primary center of the church, and it is where the Catholicos of All Armenians, the head of the church, resides.
This is the sight where massive protests against the arrest and detention of a high ranking Armenian archbishop are taking place. In two previous podcasts with Natalya Saghinyan from Yerevan, we discussed the persecution of the Armenian Apostolic Church by Nikol Pashinyan, the current prime minister and the detention of a wealthy Russian/Armenia philanthropist who was also arrested and detained for supporting the Church of Armenia.
At approximately 21:31, the section on the Armenian Genocide by the Ottoman (Turkish) Empire. To this day, there are no diplomatic relations between Turkey and Armenia. Currently there are approximately 3 million Armenians remaining in Armenia, while 11 million Armenians are living in the Diaspora around the world. These Armenians are rising up in force to support the Church and the thousands who have protesting throughout Armenia for days.
