Mikhail Gorbachev, regardless what people think about him, was an important historical figure.
Here in Russia he is responsible for dissolving the Soviet Union. Many will never forgive him for that.
In America, “Gorby” is loved and admired for being the man who ended the CCCP and the Cold War. He is also admired for achieving the first of several nuclear disarmament treaties with Ronald Reagan.
Nevertheless, Gorbachev, former General Secretary of the Soviet Union and President of the Russian Federation, took time to meet with a group of citizen diplomats travelling with The Center For Citizen Initiatives in 2018.
This is part One of a Two Part series that I documented. At one point, Gorbachev looked up at where I was filming from and said, “Make sure you get this on YouTube tonight!” I later met him and shook his hand, thanking him for meeting with us.
