War Journalism Round Table

Crimean Federal University Simferopol

Yesterday, February 24, 2025, I participated in a Round Table with academics from the university, journalists, a retired colonel, and students. My topic was Information Wars and Information Warriors.

What I liked about this format, as compared to other conferences I had attended, was the opportunity to react to presentations, ask questions, and listen to how others reacted to each speaker. I learned a great deal about how Russians approach reporting on war.

This is the second event this month that I have been invited to participate in. The first was celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Yalta Conference. I presented a short video of five WWII veterans sharing their memories of participating in that Great Patriotic War. There were two Russians, two Americans, and one Brit.

MY PRESENTATION FOLLOWS

This short video is an example of how I, as a filmmaker, am fighting the information war against my country and the West.

______________________________

If we are honest, Russia has clearly been losing the information war with the US and the West.

Russia has been up against a very well-oiled machine that has spent Billions of dollars to co-opt media world-wide, and has used censorship and the persecution of journalists to silence those who contradict the official government narrative and tell the truth.

We are living in the most advanced information and propaganda war in human history. It is so overwhelming and confusing that many people I know are desperate, disillusioned, and depressed. They are not able to sleep at night and spend their days in pain and worry.

Since coming to Russia five years ago in March 2019, I have made over 650 videos, podcasts, and films, not only covering the SMO in Ukraine and the Donbas, but I have hosted hundreds of podcasts with guests from Russia, the US and the EU analyzing the SMO and major geopolitical events.

In addition, I have made over 100 videos showing Americans what Russians are like, and what life is really like here in Russia and Crimea.

My mission has been to inform, educate, and convince American people that Russia is not their enemy.

In spite of massive censorship, I have been able to use the Internet as an Information Warrior, along with thousands of others like me.

Now that there is a thaw in US-Russian relations, the challenge for everyone involved in journalism and the media here in Russia is to recognize the opportunity we have to get the truth about Russia out to the US and its vassals in the West using every manner of media at our disposal.

As educators, you have a great responsibility. It is up to you to prepare your students for careers as information warriors who will be committed to telling the truth. You must encourage them to be curios and inquisitive and to ask the hard questions.
